DRUMSKINS

During the lockdown I needed a project to focus on and when when speaking to a good friend who worked at a instrument hire company I learned that every time a drumkit come sback from being out on hire, they change the drumheads and the used ones go to landfill. I was pretty yaken aback by this. What a waste! So I gave them another shot at life and recycled them as a pieces of art and started painting musicians and other people I found inspiring.

painted drumskins. As I am also drummer, I felt a close affinity to this project and ended up creating loads of them. What I loved most about it was that I had no idea who had played on it and where the drums had been....the little marks on each skin were unique to that one and had a story to tell...

I still create the occasional drumskin painting but I feel it's a project that really belongs to that period in time.
